The BI-0173 is an Icelandic bit with a copper mullen mouth mouthpiece, long swept-back wire shanks, and a curb chain. The smooth, unjointed copper mouthpiece distributes pressure evenly across the tongue and bars while naturally encouraging salivation and bit acceptance — copper is widely favoured for horses that are fussy or resistant with stainless steel. The longer wire shanks provide a more pronounced leverage action than shorter-shanked Icelandic bits.
