BI-0021 Premium Chifney Anti-Rearing Bit
The BI-0021 Chifney bit is the classic, trusted anti-rearing bit used by grooms, handlers, and stud professionals worldwide. Its distinctive large curved frame sits comfortably in the horse's mouth, with side rings attaching to the headcollar and a single bottom ring for the lead rope. When the horse pulls forward or attempts to rear, the curved bar applies immediate downward pressure on the tongue and bars — discouraging resistance and restoring control safely and effectively.
Key Features
- Classic Chifney design — large kidney/heart-shaped curved frame that sits in the mouth; activates only when the horse resists, remaining passive during normal leading
- 3-ring configuration — two side rings attach to the headcollar cheekpieces; one bottom ring for the lead rope or coupling strap
- Anti-rearing action — downward tongue and bar pressure discourages rearing, pulling, and barging without causing distress during calm handling
- Full stainless steel construction — hygienic, rust-resistant, and built for long-term yard use
- Smooth polished finish — comfortable in the mouth during normal leading; only engages when the horse resists
How to Use
Attach the two side rings to the cheekpieces of a well-fitted headcollar. Clip the lead rope to the bottom ring. The bit should sit quietly in the mouth at rest — pressure is only applied when the horse pulls against the lead. Always use with a correctly fitted headcollar and never leave a horse unattended while wearing a Chifney bit.
Ideal For
Leading stallions, young horses, racehorses, and any horse that is difficult or dangerous to handle in hand. Widely used at studs, racing yards, and competition venues where safe, controlled leading is essential.
